In short: Hala AI can now read live data from Odoo. Connect your Odoo account, choose what Hala is allowed to see, and your AI assistant can answer "where is my order?", "is it in stock?", "how much is it?" and "what is my balance?" from the real records, in chat and on phone calls. The connection is read-only: Hala looks things up and never changes anything in Odoo.

Your business already runs on Odoo.

Your orders are there. Your products, prices and stock levels are there. Your customers and invoices are there.

And yet, when a customer asks a simple question, someone on your team still has to stop what they are doing, open Odoo, search, read the answer and type it into a chat.

Hala AI now does that lookup itself.

The problem: the answer is in Odoo, the question is on WhatsApp

Most customer questions are not really questions for a person. They are questions for a database.

  • "Where is my order?"
  • "Do you have this in stock?"
  • "How much is it?"
  • "Did my payment go through?"
  • "How much do I still owe?"

Every one of those has a precise answer sitting in Odoo. The customer just cannot reach it, so they message you instead.

That creates a familiar loop:

Customer asks → employee opens Odoo → employee searches → employee types the answer → customer asks a follow-up → repeat

It is slow for the customer and expensive for the business. And after hours, it does not happen at all.

An AI assistant without access to your systems cannot fix this. It can only say "let me check with the team", which is the same wait with an extra step.

The fix is to give the AI the same view your employee has.

What Hala can read from Odoo

When you connect Odoo, you choose which kinds of data Hala may look up. There are five:

Orders and sales

Order status, totals and dates. This is what answers the most common message in commerce: "where is my order?"

Products and pricing

Product names, prices and product codes from your catalog, so a price quoted in chat is the price in your system.

Stock and availability

On-hand quantities, so Hala can confirm what is actually available before a customer makes the trip or places the order.

Customers

Your customer records, so Hala can recognise a returning customer by phone number or email and greet them by name.

Invoices and balances

Invoice status, payment status and outstanding amounts, for the "did you receive my payment?" and "what is my balance?" conversations.

You tick the ones you want. Hala can only read what you tick, and nothing else.

Read-only by design

This matters enough to say plainly: Hala never changes anything in Odoo.

It does not create records, edit orders, adjust stock or touch invoices. It looks up information and uses it to answer a customer. That is all.

A few more deliberate limits:

  • You choose the scope. Only the data types you enable are readable. If you would rather not have balances discussed in chat, leave that box unticked.
  • It sees what its Odoo user sees. Hala reads as the Odoo user you connect, so your existing Odoo access rights apply. To narrow what it can see, connect a user with narrower permissions.
  • Your key is stored encrypted. The API key you create for Hala is encrypted at rest and is never shown again after you save it.
  • Lookups are focused. Hala fetches a handful of matching records for the question being asked, not a copy of your database.

The result is an assistant that is useful without being a new risk to the system your business depends on.

How it works in a real conversation

Imagine a customer messaging on WhatsApp:

Customer: Hi, any update on order S00482?

Hala: Your order S00482 is confirmed, with a total of $240. Anything else I can check for you?

No one on your team opened Odoo. Hala looked up the order and answered.

Or a customer deciding whether to buy:

Customer: Do you still have the 55-inch TV? How much is it?

Hala: Yes, it's in stock, and the price is $499. Would you like me to take your order details?

And because it is a conversation, the follow-up is natural:

Customer: And the 65?

Hala understands what "the 65" refers to, looks it up, and answers.

The pattern behind every one of these is the same:

Customer question → Hala understands it → live Odoo lookup → accurate answer

The numbers come from Odoo. Hala relays what your system says and does not estimate or invent a figure.

Live, not a copy

Many "integrations" work by importing your data once and answering from the copy. The copy is out of date the moment a sale is made.

Hala looks the answer up in Odoo at the moment the customer asks.

If the last unit was sold ten minutes ago, the answer reflects it. If an invoice was marked paid this morning, the answer reflects that too.

There is no catalog to re-upload and no spreadsheet to keep in sync. Odoo stays the single source of truth, and Hala simply reads from it.

On the phone, too

This is not limited to chat.

Hala also answers phone calls as an AI voice agent, and the Odoo connection works there as well. A customer can call, ask where their order is, and hear the answer from your live data, in natural spoken Arabic or English.

One connection covers every conversation, whether it starts on WhatsApp or with a ringing phone.

Connect Odoo in a few minutes

The setup is done from the Data Sources page in your Hala dashboard.

Step 1: Create an API key in Odoo

In Odoo, go to Preferences → Account Security and create a new API key. This is a password just for Hala, separate from your own login.

Step 2: Enter your Odoo details

In Hala, enter your Odoo URL, your database name, the login email and the API key. Hala tests the connection before anything is saved, so you know immediately whether the details are right.

Step 3: Choose what Hala may read

Tick the data types you want available: orders, products, stock, customers, invoices.

Step 4: Customers start asking

From then on, when a customer asks something Odoo can answer, Hala looks it up.

One thing to check first: Odoo only offers external API access on certain plans. For Odoo Online, that means the Custom plan, as described in Odoo's external API documentation. Self-hosted Odoo works the same way, as long as Hala can reach your Odoo address.

Who this is for

Any business that runs on Odoo and talks to customers in chat or by phone.

  • Retail and e-commerce. Stock, prices and order tracking are the bulk of the inbox. See how this fits with AI for e-commerce.
  • Distribution and wholesale. Customers and resellers ask about availability, order status and outstanding balances all day.
  • Electronics and appliances. "Is it available, how much, and when can I get it?" is nearly every conversation.
  • Service businesses. Invoice and payment questions no longer need an accountant to stop and reply.

For businesses across Lebanon, the UAE, Saudi Arabia and the wider region, where Odoo is widely used and customers expect an answer on WhatsApp within minutes, it closes the gap between the system that knows the answer and the channel where the question is asked.

One of several ways to connect your data

Odoo joins a growing list of ways to give Hala real business context:

  • Shopify, for online store catalogs
  • Google Sheets, for businesses that keep prices and inventory in a spreadsheet
  • A custom API, for businesses with their own systems

The principle is always the same, and it is the one behind an AI that actually knows your business: an assistant is only as good as what it is allowed to know.

FAQ

What does the Hala AI Odoo integration do?

It lets Hala AI look up live records in your Odoo system while talking to a customer, so it can answer questions about order status, product prices, stock availability, customer details and invoice balances without a team member checking Odoo manually.

Can Hala AI change or create records in Odoo?

No. The integration is read-only. Hala looks up information to answer customers and never creates, edits or deletes anything in Odoo.

Which Odoo data can Hala AI read?

Five types, each of which you switch on individually: orders and sales, products and pricing, stock and availability, customers, and invoices and balances. Hala cannot read any type you have not enabled.

Is the data live or synced?

Live. Hala queries Odoo at the moment the customer asks, so the answer reflects your current stock, prices and order status. There is no copy of your data to keep up to date.

Is it secure to connect Odoo to an AI assistant?

Hala connects with a dedicated API key that is stored encrypted, reads only the data types you enable, and is limited by the access rights of the Odoo user you connect. It has no ability to modify your Odoo data.

Does it work with Odoo Online and self-hosted Odoo?

Yes, provided external API access is available. On Odoo Online this requires a plan that includes the external API, and a self-hosted Odoo instance needs to be reachable at the address you provide.

Does the Odoo integration work on WhatsApp?

Yes. Customers can ask about orders, stock, prices and invoices in a WhatsApp conversation and Hala answers from Odoo. It also works on phone calls answered by Hala's AI voice agent.

Does it work in Arabic?

Yes. Hala understands and replies in real spoken Arabic dialects as well as English, so a customer can ask about their order in Lebanese or Gulf Arabic and get an answer from your Odoo data. Customers can even ask by voice note: see Can Hala AI Understand Voice Notes in Different Accents?.
